how-to for online strength coaches who already have a top or working load and need productive fixed-load, fixed-rep straight-set volume after it
How to prescribe straight sets from top loads
Top-load programs stay useful when coaches write straight sets from those loads—not when every heavy set ends with vague do a few more notes.

Start from the assigned top or working load
A useful straight-set prescription starts after the top or working load is already written. Read that load for the main lift, then decide which fixed load clients should hold across sets, which fixed rep target stays constant, and how many sets complete the straight-set block. This is a reading method for building the volume rule clients open—not software evaluation of pyramid tools that mainly write ascending or descending step sizes and set counts, not drop-set tools that mainly write immediate in-set unload ladders, not back-off tools that mainly write separate reduced loads with normal rests, and not an overload chart that still leaves the straight-set block blank.
Keep same-load and same-rep targets explicit
If the only plan after the top set is do a few more somehow, insert the fixed load, fixed rep target, and set count so productive volume does not turn into unstructured extras. Prefer readable straight-set instructions over vague do-a-few-more notes. Ignore the urge to rewrite accessories and session order when only the main-lift volume rule needs an update.
Write the straight-set rule on the program before the session
Even a clean straight-set rule fails if clients still open a bare top load. Put the same-load, same-rep target and set count beside the top or working load on the assigned program, and note which load drove the prescription so next review can judge whether the straight-set volume still fits.
