How to set autoregulation from velocity-based training
Velocity stop bands stay useful when coaches write next-session autoregulated targets from those bands—not when every fast or slow set ends with vague adjust as needed notes.

Start from the current velocity stop band
A useful next-session autoregulated target starts after the velocity stop band is already written. Read those stop bands for which bar-speed cutoffs they cover and how logged effort sits beside them, then decide which next-session load or rep target should follow. This is a reading method for building the autoregulated target clients open—not software evaluation of velocity-based tools that mainly write cutoffs without a next-session target, velocity-target tools that mainly write floors beside top loads, velocity-loss tools that mainly write percent-drop stops, overreach tools, technique-cue logging tools, or progressive-overload tools that mainly chart planned-vs-performed load.
Keep the next-session target explicit
If the only plan after a fast or slow set is somehow adjust as needed, insert the next-session load or rep target, which velocity stop band and logged effort it follows, and what clients do when the next session starts so productive velocity sessions do not turn into unstructured day-of improvisation. Prefer readable autoregulated targets over vague adjust as needed notes. Ignore the urge to rewrite accessories and session order when only the next-session target needs an update.
Write the autoregulated target on the program before the next session
Even clean autoregulated targets fail if clients still open bare velocity stop bands with no next-session prescription. Put the next-session target beside the velocity stop band and logged effort on the assigned program, and note which set drove the prescription so next review can judge whether the autoregulation still fits.
